In 2001, Renee McGuire founded Forgotten Angels to help find a better way to care for people with disabilities.
In 1986, she had witnessed the struggle of a dear friend whose grown daughter had suffered severe brain damage at birth and was unable to communicate her basic needs. One weekend, this young lady had not received water from her caregivers. In the hospital, as her friend explained the horrific situation, Renee just shook her head and said over and over, “There’s gotta be a better way.”
Renee recognized that each of these individuals is created in the image of God; they reflect the handiwork of God in their beautiful smiles, their strength and determination, and their powerful ability to love.
She began to help them by opening her first group home with the purpose of providing people with quality care and a place to live and flourish within their own community.
Our vision is for the world to embrace the active and meaningful participation of people with special needs.
