Liberty Mutual
Invitational Golf Tournament, presented by E-Z Line Pipe Support and benefiting
Forgotten Angels, was held on October 17th, 2011 at Golfcrest
Country Club in Pearland. We are honored that our tournament has been
selected once again to be part of the Liberty Mutual Invitational
National Charity Event. The Liberty Mutual Invitational has
raised over $130 million for charity over the life of the program and
expects to raise over $5 million for charity this year alone.
The winning team was put together by Capital Bank and consisted of Gary Idoux, Carl Stringer, Rob Brodt and Doug Sobotik. This group of excellent golfers each received a Nike VR Pro Driver, a collectible framed award and an invitation to play in the national finals to be held at Pinehurst in March, 2012. Once again presented by E-Z Line Pipe Support, the tournament was a smashing success, bringing in over $38,000 to help support individuals living with developmental disabilities. Dusty Gordon, a member of the Forgotten Angels family, tried golf for the first time two years ago in the annual tournament, and had been working with a trainer every since. This year, he and his trainer, Val Fukuichi, were paired with Ken Lawson of Liberty Mutual and David Smith of Frank Crystal Insurance. Ken Lawson said of Dusty, "Dusty made a 15 foot putt for eagle on one of the par 5s. It was a very difficult downhill, left to right breaking putt on a very fast green. He also make two other birdie putts of about 8 feet. We also used his drive on a par 5 when all three other players hit drives in the rough, Dusty stepped up and hit a 220 yard drive right down the middle! He's a fantastic young man!" Everyone was happy when the winners were announced and Dusty's team came in 5th! It was a highlight of the evening!
